Blog has moved!

My blog will now be hosted at…

Please visit the new address for any future updates! I will be leaving this WordPress blog as it is now but won’t be adding any new entries and will probably be removing a few key posts just to transfer the traffic over.

See you there!

Moving to Own Domain and Host

I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and have invested in my own domain and private hosting space. The traffic I’ve been getting has increased from a mere daily 100 unique visitors to almost 1000 since starting this new blog on WordPress and is staying around that mark. So I thought maybe I can do more if I had my own space without the current restrictions such as no Javascript allowed or no editing of the PHP theme files. I’m going to try it for a year and see how things go. Then I’ll decide if I want to keep my new domain and space or not.

Right now, I’m in the middle of migrating everything over and setting up WordPress. I’m also waiting for the DNS entry to get updated so that I can point my new domain towards the host soon. That’s going take two days max. Until then, I think I’ll stop posting on this blog so that I don’t have to move any more posts over later.

Haven’t had too many problems although I’m going to have to learn how to change all the embedded Youtube tags and links in all the posts. Otherwise they’ll be pointing to a bunch of old addresses and that won’t work out.

Also trying to find a widget that will show the Top 10 Posts but haven’t had any luck so far.

Will point to the new domain as soon as the DNS update is complete. Don’t expect any changes to the site though because I’m still just messing around with code and just trying to make my original blog work there ^^;

Moving hosts!

The Same Sky, Are the Lyrics or Tune More Important?

同天空 (The Same Sky) by Pak Ho Chau (周柏豪) is the only song I’ve been playing whenever I’m at home over the past few days. I like the lyrics and the rhythm has a nice flow to it. It’s not the first time I looped a song for days though. Mosaic Kakera by Sunset Swish was also one of my favourites (and still is).

Anyway, below you’ll find the Chinese lyrics and my attempt at a translation.

我試過懶理別人從徬 放任隨處蕩
也試過漆黑中找哲理 儘管不够光
快快告訴我哪里已種了禁果 我要去哪里 哪里至會有曙光
過去已過去 過去已印證出答案

I’ve tried ignoring the people around me, wandering everywhere.
I’ve tried searching for principles in darkness even though there wasn’t enough light.
Tell me quickly where the Forbidden Fruit is,
For that is where I must go, it’s where the light is.
The past is in the past, it has helped confirm my answer.

Microsoft Office 2007 Window Switching Delay Resolved!

After installing a student copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate Edition, I found that every time I tried switching between documents or windows, its application windows would pause for a few seconds before being usable. It’s been very annoying but fortunately, I came across what was causing the problem.

It was the “Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM” add-on. All I had to do to was disable it by going into Word Options, Add-Ins, click Go next to “Manage COM Add-Ins” then unchecked the box.

Machines to Boost Human Intelligence by 2029?

That is, according to Ray Kurzweil.

Humanity is on the brink of advances that will see tiny robots implanted in people’s brains to make them more intelligent, said Ray Kurzweil.

The engineer believes machines and humans will eventually merge through devices implanted in the body to boost intelligence and health.

Right, more sophisticated nano machines to boost health I can imagine. It would be great to be able to heal all kinds of medical conditions without the need of incisions or, just helping the human immune system to prevent them in the first place but, machines to “boost intelligence”?

More sophisticated nano machines in the future?

It doesn’t exactly say machines that will replace the traditional way of education entirely but, I think it’s reasonable to think that it will eventually allow people to just “slot in” any information we want and learn it instantly just like in “The Matrix” movie… That wouldn’t be that great in my opinion.

An Unexpected Burst of Traffic with Professor Layton

Just been about a few days since the English version of the first Professor Layton puzzle game’s been released over in NA and, the traffic on my blog’s already being topped everyday. I wasn’t really expecting so many hits from people searching for information about the game or guides for it to be honest so, this was a little surprise. Days of writing that guide and coverage of it is paying off now.

My guide was written when the Japanese version came out though so, a number of puzzles probably don’t match up correctly. I wonder how long the traffic will keep flowing in? Perhaps until more guides appear but, will Western players heed Level 5’s appeal to not write answer guides? I wrote mine before that notice appeared so I don’t intend to take it down. And the Japanese? Well, from what I’ve read so far, the usual guide sites are only listing hints now instead of answers (for the second game anyway).

I’ve still to play the second game “Pandora’s Box” but I’m sure I’ll get round to it before the third game, “The Last Time Travel” is out or even the live action movie for that matter.

On the other hand, it’s good to see the title doing so well, topping the DS chart on Amazon US while making it into the top ten in the video games section. I just hope more people will manage to overlook the “cartoon” presentation and enjoy the brain stormers. It really is a charming little game. Good job, Level 5! You deserve the CESA Japan Game Award of Excellency in 2007!

Missing E-mails

Just a temp post. Could anyone who e-mailed me within the past 9 hours (yeah, it’s work time over here!) re-send their e-mails to me please? Sorry but, my anti-virus was acting up while it scanned the last small batch of e-mails and seemed to have corrupted a number of them. Now I can’t get the e-mails off the server again since it thinks I’ve already received them.

I think one of the e-mails was from someone who had a name beginning with “D” and was asking me about Japanese. There were a few others asking about Professor Layton but, there wasn’t that many I missed. Around 20 or so.

So, if you e-mailed me in the past 9 hours and I haven’t replied yet. Please re-send your e-mails ^^;
